FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
REGARDING LEVEL 2 GOSPEL CARDS
1. Where do I find the Family Question that needs to be answered?
You will find the question in the Sunday Bulletin. It will be in the Section “Reflections on the Sunday Scriptures”. The date will be for the following Sunday. Read the excerpt and look over the questions. We ask your child to answer the Children and Family Reflection question – NOT the ones numbers 1, 2 or 3.
2. I didn’t go to church. Where can I get a copy of the bulletin?
There may be copies left in the church building throughout the week; however, our bulletin is accessible online at http://www.stpatricksmithtown.org Once you are on the parish website, click on the link BULLETIN (in the purple heading of the page). Look to the right of the page and you will see Bulletin Downloads (PDF). Click on the bulletin for the week you missed.
3. How does my child hand in their cards?
Please hand your cards in at a Sunday Liturgy. We recommend the Saturday afternoon liturgy at 5:00 pm because it is geared towards the children. However, whichever liturgy you attend, you may place the card in the collection basket as it is passed around.
4. Does my child have to hand in a card every week?
Yes, Your child is expected to hand in a card every week. The Gospel reflection is a nice way to bring the family together in conversation. It also helps us to see how the gospel reflects our lives today.
5. What happens if I miss going to mass one week?
If you miss church one week, your child can hand in their card the following week during that mass’s collection.
Please keep in mind, in order for your child’s response to be eligible for publication in the bulletin, it needs to correlate to the proper gospel for that week. For example: gospel reflection dated October 1, 2017 would be in the September 25, 2017 bulletin. That question and it’s response should be placed in the collection basket the weekend of October 1, 2017 in order to be eligible for the publication on October 8, 2017.
6. Could my child hand in their card to their teacher?
No, the only method of receipt for the gospel cards are through the collection basket during mass time. If you miss a week or two, your child may submit all cards upon their return to mass.
7. My child is a student in St. Patrick’s school but we belong to a different parish. How should he/she submit their cards?
We strongly suggest you attend some masses at St. Patrick’s parish as opposed to your home parish. It would be wonderful for your child to get to know the parish priests and become familiar with their style before making Communion in the Spring.
